Be pretty in pink this summer with marvelous makeup that pairs perfectly with Lilly Pulitzer

Date: 06/08/2012

Good morning Lilly Lovers! As much as The Pelican Girls love our Lilly, we also love pretty makeup. Makeup in shades of pink provides a pretty pop of color that pairs perfectly with designs inspired by THE Pink and Green Queen: Lilly Pulitzer.

From the tips of your toes to the top of your lips, today we share some of our happiest hues and hope they will inspire you! After all, as Lilly herself said, "Wear pink and make the boys wink!" Read on for some of our favorite pink products as well as tips and tricks learned from makeup artists!

This summer I FINALLY achieved the perfect pink shade for my toes, it even matches the pink interior of my Resort Chic Wedges. It's Off the Shoulder by Essie and I found it at my local Target. It's perfectly pink and pretty and looks so nice with a light summer tan. (The Pelican Girls want to remind you to tan safely!)

No shimmer but looks pretty topped with a subtle shimmer top coat like Sephora by OPI Wild About Shimmer.

Another product of which we Pelican Girls are oh so fond of is the Tarte LipSurgence line of products. They're available in Matte, Lip Tint and Lip Luster. All of the varieties provide pretty pops of color AND increase the moisture content of your lips. While I have too many shades to count--this product is THAT good--for summer I find myself reaching for the Lip Luster in Frisky. I love things that are pretty, practical and playful--don't you? Subtle shimmer and kissable soft lips? Yes, please!

These products are packed with good for you Vitamin E, Vitamin C, jojoba and pinch of peppermint oil. Tarte products can be found online, at Sephora and Ulta. They often do bundles with several shades of LipSurgence for about the price of one and I ALWAYS stock up on those.

Benefit's High Beam is a product I swear by year-round. It's the palest of pink with a shimmer that makes you glow. In the summer, I sweep a little across the tippy top of my cheek bones, dot some on my temples and accent the cupid's bow of my lip--blend it in, add a light dusting of powder or bronzer and you're set! It provides a little bit of luminousness that summer skin craves.

In the winter, mix a dab with your foundation or tinted moisturizer to perk up pasty winter skin. (You can also dot a bit in the center of your bottom lip to create the illusion of fuller lips.)

With all the sun and fun, don't forget to keep your pout protected. Some doctors believe that high shine lip gloss can increase your risk for skin cancer so protect your pout with a lip product that includes SPF and always re-apply after swimming, eating and drinking. I love the shine and feel of these Neutrogena MositureShine Lip Soothers with SPF 20 and the shade Sparkle is pretty alone or layered over other lip colors. And, nothing is prettier than being properly protected. These are easily available at drugstores and grocery stores.

Want to play up your eyes and do a little winking of your own? Pink is pretty on your peepers and not overpowering. This limited edition eyeshadow trio from Nars features three lovely hues ranging from an icy pink to a rose petal pink to a deep rose. I love eyeshadow palettes--they make it so easy to create a custom look.

If you want to save on shadows to splurge on the latest Lilly, pick up pink that packs a punch without a high price by scoring the Maybelline Palette in Pink Punch--available at Target. To make those peepers pop even prettier, highlight eyes with a shimmery white shade on the brow bone and on the inner corners of your eyes. Lining the bottom inner rim with a white or flesh toned eye pencil will also whiten those whites and play up your eyes.

And if you need a little help creating a faux flush, the Tarte Natural Cheek Stain in Tipsy provides a beautiful blush. Cheek stains are wonderful for summer weather as they stay on skin better, last longer and don't cake as powders can. Again, Tarte loads their products with good for you extracts. These slide on smooth and blend beautifully. Pick one up at Sephora or Ulta.

For a little extra contouring, use a lighter shade on the apples of your cheeks and along your cheek bones and swipe a darker blush, or bronzer, on the hollows of your cheeks--blend them together ever so slightly and voila--you've got flattering flush!

Now that we've shared some of our favorites and a couple tips and tricks, the Pelican Girls want to know--what's your favorite makeup for thinking pink? Any super shades we're missing out on? Sound off in the comments!

P.S. The June 10 Lilly Pulitzer delivery is on-course to arrive soon at The Pink Pelican!
