The Pelican Girls try on the latest Lilly Pulitzer looks for summer and they're shipshape

Date: 06/22/2012

Good morning Lilly Lovers! In Alabama, we are enjoying a beautiful summer that hasn't been too terribly hot--yet! I probably just doomed us by saying that but at The Pink Pelican, we couldn't be happier. We love summer. We love Lilly. And we love celebrating each and every day colorfully. And, in case we haven't mentioned it in awhile, we love our Lilly Lovers!

Yesterday we spent some time in the store trying on new arrivals so we could share all the "juice" on fit and styling.

When the Pelican Girls saw the Lilly Pulitzer Patti Short in Resort White Anchor Jacquard ($78), we swooned a little bit. These shorts have it all: scalloped hem, summer white AND a tonal anchor pattern? There's no nautical nonsense here; these shorts are shipshape. They have a three inch inseam but for a white short, they're not sheer due to the jacquard fabric. They do run a little large in the waist so you can wear them lower on your hips. Also? These shorts zip up the back! I don't know if you've ever had pants or shorts that zip up the back but I am still mourning the demise of my favorite black pants with a back zip--so so slimming and so so flattering.

We LOVE the Cleo Top. I mean absolutely adore it. I've not seen a top this flattering in a really long time. Ther ruffles, the neckline, the slight racerback--talk about making you look thinner, taller and terrific! White on white is so fresh and clean for summer.  (You will need a racerback bra with the Cleo.) To be truly party perfect, toss on the Shell Yeah Necklace. The Lilly Pulitzer Cleo Top in Resort White ($68) wears wow with just about everything.

Continuing on the Patti parade, the Pelican Girls think these Lilly Pulitzer Patti Shorts in Ahoy Seersucker ($74) are pretty cute AND patriotic. Paired with the Lilly Pulitzer Wiley Tube Top in Resort White ($58), this look goes shopping, poolside, to the barbecue and so much more. Again, the Patti shorts have a three inch inseam and run a little large in the waist. The Wiley runs true to size and we also have it in one of summer's most perfect prints, Hey Sailor.

The subtle seersucker stripes make these shorts a great choice for those who want to play with pattern mixing. And if you want to be a little more covered on top, toss on the Lilly Pulitzer Costa Tunic in True Navy ($88). Costa Tunics are a favorite with our Lilly Lovers.

If you love a little lace and summer's staple of seersucker, this Lilly Pulitzer Esmeralda Dress in Ahoy Seersucker ($174), is your perfect pick! It's got an easy fit, runs true to size and it is a little on the short side but that works with it's fun and flirty styling and, remember, Lauren is 5'8". (Below she's hanging out in our Prints Dressing Room). To transition to fall, toss on a casual denim jacket with the sleeves rolled up.

We know, Lilly Lovers LOVE their Callahans and this pair is one of the cutest we've seen in awhile. Of course, we feel that way about MOST every pair of Callahans. What can we say? They're some super shorts. In yesterday's Pelican Brief, we raved about the classic Callahans in Summer Classics and today we want to share our love for the Lilly Pulitzer Callahan Shorts in Ahoy There ($68). We paired them with the Lilly Pulitzer Cleo Top in Azalea Pink ($68) which again is one of our favorite summer tops but they'd also work well with True Navy or Resort White. At the Pink Pelican, we're just partial to PINK!

As for fit, the Pelican Girls think these textured Callahans run a little slimmer in the hips and thighs which Lauren actually preferred. (In the below pic, Lauren is in our Tropical Traveling Bling Dressing Room.)

It's no secret that Lilly Lovers AND Pelican Girls love our Cassie Dresses. One day, I am going to do a count and figure out how many the Pelican Girls own; I think my collection alone may be in the double digits. But they're perfect! Cozy, chic AND comfortable--what's not to love?

With the Lilly Pulitzer Cassie Dress in Top of the Column ($138), the design team outdid themselves. The french terry is so fabulous, it lays perfectly and is not as lightweight as the cotton Cassies which we all personally love, because it's wonderful to wear with how high places blast their summer ac. I wore mine to an outdoor swim meet the other night and was super comfortable.

Another plus about the french terry? It's not as clingy as cotton and sort of skims over any, um, flaws. Lauren and I both have ours on below with our Shell Yeah Necklaces. Now I NEED the Cassie in Ahoy There and MUST have the Cassie in True Navy AND Azalea Pink. This french terry is my new favorite fabric. (Plus, it will carry well into fall.)

A note on sizing: we did find the printed french terry Cassies to be slightly longer than the current cotton Cassies. The solid color french terry Cassies are a little shorter than their printed sister and also ever so slightly smaller. A big bonus of the french terry Cassies? They are narrower in the shoulders than the cotton ones.

Okay Lilly Lovers: which of summer's latest looks are YOU loving? How would you wear them?
